Specialist Technical Advisory

Expert Guidance for High-Hazard Environments

Specialist technical support for aviation engineering, hazardous materials, forensic investigation, and operational assurance: relied on when standard approaches don't fit the risk profile and the operational consequences of getting it wrong are severe.

Technical advisory that comes from operational knowledge

Specialist technical advisory is engaged when an organisation faces a situation where general safety consultancy is insufficient: where the technical complexity, the hazard profile, or the regulatory stakes require deep domain expertise backed by operational experience in that environment.

Peter McNair's background in aerospace engineering, fast jet operations, hazardous materials management, and forensic accident investigation provides a level of technical authority that is rare in the HSE consulting field. This is operational knowledge: not desk-based analysis of environments he has never worked in.

"Peter's RAF background and decades of cross-sector experience means this is operational knowledge: not desk-based advice."

Four specialist areas

Aviation & Engineering Operations

Technical and operational support across:

  • Aircraft engineering environments
  • Aviation ground operations
  • Technical maintenance systems
  • Operational safety procedures
  • Engineering quality assurance

Experience includes multi-platform aircraft systems: Phantom, Jaguar, Tornado, Hawk, and PC9 operations.

Hazardous Materials & Dangerous Goods

Development and implementation of:

  • Dangerous goods procedures
  • Hazardous material controls
  • Airport safety systems
  • Operational emergency response procedures
  • Technical training frameworks

Includes development of safety management systems and hazardous operations support across major international and regional airports.

Technical Investigation & Recovery Operations

Support involving:

  • Forensic accident investigation
  • Evidence preservation
  • Technical failure analysis
  • Recovery coordination
  • Operational systems review

Experience includes complex land and sea recovery operations, including ROV-assisted evidence recovery during major incidents.

Technical Audit & Operational Assurance

Support focused on:

  • Technical compliance reviews
  • Engineering procedure evaluation
  • Operational consistency
  • Maintenance system effectiveness
  • Implementation assurance

Includes development of engineering procedures and maintenance schedules supporting fleet-wide operational reliability.

When This Applies

Situations that require specialist input

  • Aviation and airside environments where standard HSE frameworks don't account for the technical complexity
  • Hazardous materials and dangerous goods incidents or system failures requiring forensic-level review
  • Major accident investigations where evidence recovery and technical failure analysis is required
  • Engineering maintenance environments requiring operational safety system design or review
  • Organisations preparing technical safety documentation that must withstand regulatory or legal scrutiny
  • High-risk operational system design where an aerospace engineering background is directly relevant
Organisations We Work With

Industries and contexts

  • Civil & military aviation operators
  • Airport & ground handling organisations
  • Oil and gas: hazardous environments
  • Industrial & manufacturing operations
  • Insurance & legal: expert witness support
  • Government & regulatory bodies

Peter McNair, CFIOSH

Expert guidance for high-hazard environments: grounded in operational experience, not theory.

Peter McNair holds a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering and progressed to Chief Technician in fast jet operations during a 30-year Royal Air Force career spanning Phantom, Jaguar, Tornado, Hawk, and PC9 aircraft. This operational background is the foundation for his technical advisory work: he understands aviation engineering environments from the inside, not as an observer.

His work in hazardous materials management includes designing and implementing dangerous goods systems across more than 50 international and regional airports for the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia. His forensic investigation experience includes major accident recovery operations across air, sea, and land: including ROV-assisted evidence retrieval and flight recorder analysis in legal proceedings.

BSc Aerospace Engineering CFIOSH: Chartered Fellow of IOSH 30-year RAF career: Chief Technician, fast jet operations Multi-platform aircraft experience: Phantom, Jaguar, Tornado, Hawk, PC9 Registered Expert Witness: Criminal and Civil Law Forensic investigation including ROV and flight recorder analysis
